Warnings ensued. We boiled water, we bought water. We congregated in the local Safeway parking lot to line up at the water tanks brought by truck. We watched construction of a pipe along the side of the high way that connected the bacteria-free water of Frederick to our sinks and faucets. We shuddered at the thought of what was living and thriving in our water supply. We even made the national news. But mostly, we marveled at the oddity of the situation, sure it was a once-in-a-lifetime event.
Nope.
This past Monday's newspaper reported that "a truck filled with manure spilled earlier in the week, and the farmer responsible was pumping the manure into the creek." If only that had been the case. In actuality, not a truckload, but 5 million gallons from a manure lagoon.

Yikes! I feel your pain. My parents' well water was smelling funny when I was in high school. We waited a couple of months and finally got it tested. The verdict - ecoli. Yup. The farms had found our well. And we were drinking it. And cooking with it. And brushing our teeth with it. And showering in it. My parents, being the penny pinchers they are, decided to just bring in drinking water and we could continue to shower and cook with it. (I am frugal, but not that bad!) They still have the problem now, but the decided to drop a chlorine tablet in the well each day so the water wouldn't smell as bad. Really makes me want to go for an overnighter.
Poor, poor Niki. I'd like to casually point out that the current temperature is 6.
Ugh-terrible. Can you even shower or does the family have to take turns in the big rain barrel?
